Plays Vinyl

We value analog and vinyl talents at HCR. We know it’s unique and hard to come by to get a DJ that can play vinyl, let alone know how to work the needle and turntables properly whilst digging through crates of wax. Kyle has been procuring and playing vinyl since the late 90s. He has a technical talent that is rare among the pool of DJs these days, and a memorable swagger up on the decks.

Chicago Vibes

Chicago Vibes

House Music was born in Chicago, along with Kyle's musical skill set and style. His mother used to go to disco clubs when she was pregnant with him -- he was born into the beat. As such, Kyle is an aggressive mixer and precise programmer. His sound always has a full heartbeat, is chunky, organic, melodic, and constantly moving, all without losing that soulfulness that, historically, House music provides. He loves implementing new techniques, experimental sounds, and complex layering. Kyle genuinely enjoys pushing himself to be the best for his audience.

Live DJ Sets

Live DJ Sets

You will not be getting pre-recorded or pre-planned sets from Kyle Douglas. He spends countless hours in the studio, on flights, or wherever and whenever he can get time to meticulously organize his music files in Rekordbox. He has a best-in-class system for his digital tracks as well as his vinyl records. Many other DJs and producers have come to Kyle for mentoring on how to better organize their music library. Due to this attention-to-detail, Kyle is able to play tracks seamlessly live at shows, giving the audience a once-in-a-lifetime experience unlike any other show, every single time they come to his sets.

Frequently Asked
Questions

Answers to questions often asked about our style, music, experience, services, pricing, & billing.

What genres of House Music do we specialize in?

Kyle can confidently play all genres of House but puts out mostly Underground House, Deep House, Minimal, Disco, and Afro House.

What is our DJ style?

Being from Chicago, Kyle is an aggressive mixer with soul. His sound always has a full heartbeat, is chunky, organic, melodic, and tracky. He does all of his track selection live, and nothing is pre-planned. His on-the-fly track selection is fire as he has personally developed a best-in-class organizational structure in Rekordbox. We look for these same characteristics in other DJs we book for events.

What sets us apart from other artists?

We DJ and spin vinyl and have been for 23+ years. We also DJ with analog devices and digital. You can expect the highest level of professionalism from our team, as Kyle is a Civil Engineer by day and Jenn has been a successful entrepreneur and business manager for 15 years. As this is the case, we can do our own sound and system setup, management, and cover most other technical needs. We also are experienced event operators and managers, and mentor many partners in other crews. We go above and beyond your average artist booking as we bring many other skills with us. We value being a steward of good etiquette for our clients and their audiences, as well as our own.

How long have you been DJing?

Kyle, HCR’s co-founder, is a Chicago-bred DJ that has been mixing on both vinyl and digital since the late 90s, 23+ years.

Have you performed at notable venues or events?

Including Seattle and Chicago, Kyle is a well-traveled DJ, having lived in four major House Music markets. He’s held residencies in NYC, played festivals in Northern CA, WA, and clubs all over SF, NYC, and has played at various venues abroad in Thailand, Bali, Amsterdam, and London. He's played at Burning Man with several camps, most notably DISTRIKT, Amsterdam Dance Event with Viva Recordings, Critical Northwest Festival in Washington (PNW Burning Man regional), Flammable in Seattle (longest running House Music night in WA; 25+ years), and Winter Music Conference in Miami with MyHouseYourHouse.

What type of equipment do you use for your performances?

Music on USB Drives
Vinyl & needles (applicable when using turntables)
3 EA – Pioneer CDJ 3000
2 EA - Technics Turntables Mark 3 (M3D) or newer (applicable when using turntables)
1 EA – Allen & Heath Xone 96 preferred (Xone 92 also acceptable)
1 EA - Pioneer RMX1000

Do you have your own DJ setup, or will you require the venue to provide one?

That depends. We have our own equipment, but if the venue has the equipment we need outlined in the tech rider, then we typically do not bring equipment with us. We only bring our personal DJ equipment (headphones, music, and/or vinyl records) to events we travel for. If we are going to a local event, we are happy to bring equipment at an additional cost. We can always provide our tech rider to the promoter/venue and they can get the equipment needed.

How long is your typical DJ set?

Our typical DJ set is 1.5-2hrs. Our minimum is 1.5hrs, as it's really difficult to create a vibe in less time.

We actually specialize in mathathon/open-to-close sets (6hrs+). As long as the DJ/s are taken care of, we can discuss specifics and have those be concrete in a signed contract by both parties. We have been known to play up to 24hrs, but that was for a special stream.

Are you available and willing to travel worldwide for events?

Yes, we are, and depending on where and what the event is we will require some budget for travel fees and accommodations. You can reach out to us directly at [email protected] to discuss budgets.

What are your rates for different types of events?

Once we chat with you about your specific needs, we can offer a quote based on that conversation. We need to ensure that this is a good fit for both parties before we move forward. Fill out the form on this page so we can set up a time to chat. We offer a 30-minute consultation meeting gratis over Zoom.

We do have non-negotiable cost minumums based on duration, effort, and typical budgets of the requesting party. We do not have a one-size-fits all model, but we do have rates for each component of an event and service. We can go over that with you in a call. Our rates also depend on what type of event this is for: private, public, corporate, or if we are traveling.

Do you have a standard contract outlining your terms and conditions?

Yes, we do, and we are also happy to work with yours. We do not engage in any events without a contract, and a review of our contract with both parties on a Zoom call. We will then sign on final agreed upon terms. We want to ensure both parties are heard and covered properly.

How do you engage with the audience during your performances?

For our live DJ sets, the DJs are focused on mixing records and choosing tracks that vibe with the reaction of the crowd well and are time-appropriate. We partner with aerialists, acrobats, and technical lighting companies sometimes with lasers and spotlights etc. Those services are only available alongside our performances and come at an additional agreed upon cost via our approved partners.

DJs will not be taking any requests at any time.

Do you offer any additional services, such as remixes, production, or event promotion?

In short, yes we do! We are not just a record label. We are a community, entertainment group, and educational service.

Services we offer (quotes available upon request):
- DJ gigs
- Paid training (vinyl & digital DJing): beat matching, mixing, track selection, advanced techniques
